Chocolate Workshop, Waterfall & Cultural Lunch with Tortilla-Making in Rural Home
Head out of Manuel Antonio to a remote village just 30 minutes into the mountains. We will visit a private property in the rainforest with a stunning view of the Naranjo River rushing below. Tour the gardens, learn about the local fruits and spices the locals use, and even try the cacao fruit in its pure form. Head down to the Rancho to begin an informative and fascinating lesson on the history of chocolate, and then roll up your sleeves and make your truffles, choosing from various toppings to make them special and unique to you! While letting your chocolate set, head down the short trail to the river and plunge into a refreshing waterfall. Swim in the pool or lay on a giant boulder and take in this special place. After the river, we visit our friend Doña Luz for an authentic, interactive cooking experience in her cozy home. Learn to make tortillas and get to know Luz and her family.

Head out of Manuel Antonio in our 4x4 vehicle to a unique community forming a cooperative for eco-sustainable tourism. Cross several of the highest hanging bridges in the country, learn about the local flora and fauna, and enjoy a refreshing dip in a 120-foot waterfall deeply hidden in the primary rainforest. After cooling off in the waterfall, we will hike up to the home of one of the founders of the cooperative and enjoy a special lunch with our friend Doña Corona in her quaint home. Explore her medicinal garden, sample some local fruits, learn about the campesino lifestyle, and join an interactive experience of pressing sugar cane with a traditional sugar mill or Trapiche.

We will pick you up in Manuel Antonio and head into the forested mountains of Esquipulas. After the hike, we will have some fresh local fruits and walk down a short trail to a cascading waterfall alongside the Naranjo River to cool off. This unique experience is informative, completely hands-on, and includes a special visit to a viewpoint where you will taste the rainforest flavors with delicious homemade treats highlighting spices that grow on the farm. Pass by the spice shop to take some goodies home with you. Later, we will head 2 miles up the road into the next village for a refreshing dip in a waterfall that flows from the rainforest into the Naranjo River. Relax and splash around until it is time to walk up to Doña Luz’s home for an interactive experience learning how to make homemade tortillas and enjoying a very authentic lunch cooked over a wood-burning stove.
